For those visual learners.....here's what going on in Komodos, the two cells circled are fusing-->one cell is a secondary polar body, the other is the mature egg. Perhaps the two polar bodies containing W chromosome fuse but WW is not a viable genotype, like YY in mammals.
Notice how in this mechanism all autosomes would be homozygous for every gene as well.
