Oh my goodness. I wonder how a monitor that big gets into the store in the first place. Maybe they leave doors and windows open in that part of the world, I wouldn't know. What a cutie pie.

Maybe their doors open automatically like most of ours do? Wouldn't that be something to see? He's huge, & I can't believe how easily he was able to scramble up the shelves, even as he was clearing them. I wonder if he ever found anything to his liking? :D

That didn't even occur to me, but as big as he is, it very well could be I guess!

So now that we all want one for a pet* here's a bit more about that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-gI8SOuOL4 (*JOKING!)

Yikes, what a hand-full. Those claws!- or as Clint charitably put it, you'll always look as though you've just fought off a bear. And they get so much bigger than the one he's holding- that never sits still! Well, I'll have to pass, as handsome as these monitors are.

Storekeepers should really remember to put monitor treats on the lower shelves so they are easier to reach....

That's great advice! I hope they think of that for next time.

At the end of the video, when the monitor lifted his tail, I had the impression he was about to take a dump up there? :O I know snakes do that little "tail-lift" move, but I'm not sure about monitors- do you know? I sure hate to see him get banned from the store...

Oh I thought the same thing! I’ve seen lizards do that too- and a huge carnivore like that? That would’ve been horrific.
I guess he was trying to make his tail fit in the space, but I was definitely going nononono when I saw that! [emoji1]

I guess we'll never know...maybe that's why they cut away so fast with the video? Glad I wasn't the only one thinking :O STOP! :D

I agree about the initial “oooh, want” impulse- I used to do public herp education events, and this guy always brought a huge water monitor and a somewhat smaller alligator; I’ll never forget him asking me if I’d hold the gator while he ran out to his car or something. I’m sitting in my chair with about 5’ of sweetie pie crocodilian across my lap, head over my shoulder, rocking gently and watching some outstanding double-takes...
But I had a crush on the monitor, too- so gentle and patient with all the little kids petting him. The guy had part of his house adapted for his big kids. I had enough problems with guys scared of my big iguanas, can’t imagine what a big water monitor would’ve done! [emoji23]
Just cleaning up the waste was enough to give me pause; that’s some rough business there.[emoji15]
