Lizards make messy shoppers

Storekeepers should really remember to put monitor treats on the lower shelves so they are easier to reach....

That's great advice! I hope they think of that for next time.
At the end of the video, when the monitor lifted his tail, I had the impression he was about to take a dump up there? :O I know snakes do that little "tail-lift" move, but I'm not sure about monitors- do you know? I sure hate to see him get banned from the store...

Oh I thought the same thing! I’ve seen lizards do that too- and a huge carnivore like that? That would’ve been horrific.
I guess he was trying to make his tail fit in the space, but I was definitely going nononono when I saw that! [emoji1]

I agree about the initial “oooh, want” impulse- I used to do public herp education events, and this guy always brought a huge water monitor and a somewhat smaller alligator; I’ll never forget him asking me if I’d hold the gator while he ran out to his car or something. I’m sitting in my chair with about 5’ of sweetie pie crocodilian across my lap, head over my shoulder, rocking gently and watching some outstanding double-takes...
But I had a crush on the monitor, too- so gentle and patient with all the little kids petting him. The guy had part of his house adapted for his big kids. I had enough problems with guys scared of my big iguanas, can’t imagine what a big water monitor would’ve done! [emoji23]
Just cleaning up the waste was enough to give me pause; that’s some rough business there.[emoji15]
