    Half Veined egg

I was candling a few eggs, and I found an egg that had all the veins on one end. Half of the egg is "empty"

The animal is still alive, and the blood is still pumping, but... I've never had this problem before.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem before???

    Re: Half Veined egg

Well, I'm no expert here since I'm incubating my first clutch...but even candling that one clutch I found tremendous variation within the veins. Some were strong and robust...another egg I was less certain about because it just had veins on the very, very top of it and none down the sides. I could barely see anything in there.

They are all doing well 40 days later though.

    Maybe it's just totally random??

Oh Heather, it's fine. You'll just have a very short snake

    Re: Half Veined egg

first clutch this year from my pastel to normal Produced 7 eggs. one egg was like that and went bad starting on day 22. it started turning yellow and i knew it was going to go bad. im guessing if the egg doesnt turn you should be fine and it will be more like a boob egg and produce a small baby.

if you cant afford to take care of it, dont get it

I actually recall bouncing this one..

I'm concerned it will be a deformed baby, so in a week or two, I will report back..

    Re: Half Veined egg

I had an egg look like that in my last clutch. When it was first laid I candled it and it looked like that.

But I remembered listening to Reptile Radio one day and Larry or BT mentioned something about eggs like that. And I can't remember if they said you should lay it with the veins at the bottom or at the top. So I gambled and took bottom. Now the whole egg appears red with veins.

    Re: Half Veined egg

The veining it does have looks nice and healthy, my guess is you may just get a smaller hatchling out of the egg. Pretty neat though, keep us updated!
