    Local places that carry thermostats?

Like would the local walmart carry a Tstat that would last long enough to purchase a better one? or would i be better off purchasing a rheostat from walmart, since temps in the room are fairly constant (1-4 degree variation)...

or would i be better off looking at a Petsmart, Ace Hardware, or somewhere else?

Petco and Petsmart both carry one.

if you are going to go the dimmer (rheostat) way. check out walmart, lowes, home depot for light dimmers. you might be able to find one that already has a cord/plug on it. you just have to adjust alot with this setup.

Thats for sure. I have found dimmers/rheostats to be only for temporary use. I have one here just in case. Its just a pain and you get wide temp swings.

yea, i was only going to use a rheostat if a petsmart doesnt have a tstat. but since they do, i just figure we will go and buy one or 2...

currently the hot side is a lil hot, but it doesnt heat the cool side at ALL so we might buy another reptile heatpad and set it to about 88F attatched to the cool side. and the hot side at about 98 to keep surface temps below deadly, but the paper top temps around 95...

how reliable are the ones available at petsmart?

They ane not reliable Honestly some people have great luck with them and others dont.. Its really a game of russian roulette. If your saving for a better thermostat then I would probably go with the dimmer option as it would be cheaper...

the one the petsmart carries is a Zoomed 150 watt thermostat, the 500 seems to have decent reviews over on the Thermostat review site on MGreptiles...
