So this morning I had a go at popping my male pastel to no avail. He'd just start to come out, but either I don't have the technique down, or he's getting too old to pop easily. Either way, I gave up and put him back in his cage before I hurt him or something like that. Then I upped his humidity after noticing his colors are slightly duller and his belly is pink. Seems he just shed...and another one on the way. Yay.
Anyway, I then got my female, Pelota out for a bit. I figured "Hey, I've never checked to see if she truly is female or not." I've just assumed the small-time local breeder to be correct on their claim that she's a she when I purchased her in 04. So I decided to try and pop her. I didn't see any hemipene, but two little pieces of booger-like things did come out. Looks a lot like a sperm plug to me, but I've never seen one in person. If so, then I'm in trouble....can't breed males to males(even though they might wanna give it a go  oh those lonely winters...), and I was looking forward to my first breeding project this coming november.
Other than sperm plugs, the only other thing I can think of is pieces of shed from the inside. I've heard they shed the inner lining of their cloaca which can cause blood with the shed, and she just shed a week ago, so maybe. But yeah...enough rambling. Does this look like a sperm plug? There was another in there too but it stayed in. Didn't come out fully...and I was freaked out enough with the first one so I didn't persue the second.![]()
I think I'm gonna have to get my hands on some probes.![]()
