    "Beauty of Snakes" - Right now!

    I was just browsing the Comcast guide, and saw a listing for "Beauty of Snakes" on HD Theater (a Discovery channel). Just thought I'd mention it, for anyone who has this channel... looks like a really neat program so far!! They're showing a rainbow boa right now, and it looks sooooo amazing in the HD.

    Yes, they are gorgeous... definitely on my want list for the near future.

    The footage is really impressive on this program, and some of it almost looks like a movie - did you (GenePirate) see the mom & kid in the hammock? Do you think that was staged? I don't care either way, just wondering about that.

    P.S. They're following this show with "Jeff Corwin Experience - Mexico: The Great Snake Hunt," and then "In Search of the King Cobra." It's a whole night of snake programming!

    How did I not know this channel existed?! This HD Theater channel is really quite amazing, I am watching In Search of the King Cobra right now, unfortunately I missed the other two programs but I've set them to record for this weekend.

    I have an unhealthy crush on Jeff Corwin.

    I didn't know about it either! Maybe it's a new addition to their lineup? I didn't watch the other two shows, since I'm not really into the "hunting" stuff... but I did catch the end of the King Cobra one, and saw the dude touching one on the head. He was kind of an idiot, LOL.

    Hey, I can understand that... he is kinda cute.

    heehee yes it started when I was 9, he had a show on the disney channel.

    Yes, Austin Stevens is a little wacky and he's a little bit of the South African Croc Hunter except he's an amazing photographer as well. It's kind of cool because that program I think was aired like eight years ago and because it is so aesthetically pleasing it still makes it to television a lot. But I won't be touching a cobra anytime soon ^__^;;

    Re: "Beauty of Snakes" - Right now!

    Beauty of Snakes is pretty cool, but somewhat inaccurate. They really do like to make it out that snakes are vicious killing machines with no fear and no remorse. Like how they paint the Black Mamba out to be a snake that will chase you down faster than you can run and made it seem that they would strike at anything within their sight. However in reality you're more likely to see them using that speed to run away from you.

    And they also show a snake crawling on a little kid's bed/room as if this kind of thing happens all the time.

    The show is nice because it really does present their beauty, and it does turn some things around, but between human fear of snakes and the statements/visuals of them being around people constantly, you really need to think about what their real angle was.
