Odd Behavior

Not sure if this is really odd or what. I have a red foot tortoise, about 2 years old I think. I have her in a 64 qt tub until we make her a custom indoor enclosure. It's coco fiber substrate, she has a cardboard box on one end with a hold cut in it for a hide, and two ceramic flower pot saucers for food and water at the other end, and a dome uvb light close to the hide for basking. We've been misting twice a day to be sure the humidity is good.

I've seen her quite often just walking into a corner, over and over, as if she can walk through the tub. She does it for a long time sometimes. I've seen her eat, however she doesn't seem as eager to take food as other red foots I've seen. I'm not sure if she's running into that corner for hours because she can kind of see through the plastic and doesn't know her "walls", or if there's something else going on. She also seems more "picky" than other red foots, who are apparently known for being voracious eaters. Any ideas?

How long have you had her? She could just be having difficulty adjusting to a new environment. The first three days I had my russian he kept running into one corner repeatedly--his tub is kind of translucent too. He also is extremely picky and will basically only eat live plants at the moment.

I've had her since Sunday, I bought her at an expo...I figured it takes a bit to get used to things. My boyfriend just called me at work and was really concerned so I told him I'd post a question.

Edit: Do you suggest interacting often with them? I know red foots are supposed to be social, I just don't want to stress her out...

Give her some time to settle in. So long as she's eating and pooping you should be alright.

They are very cool tortoises. I had one for years and he was great.

I'd give her as long as you'd give a bp or any other reptile to adjust before interacting too much. Also, if it's still warm enough to take her outside for a little bit a few times a week (above 65) I'd suggest taking her out--even though it means handling her a little. Other than that, hands off for a few more days.
Also, if you haven't already, joining tortoiseforum.org would be a great idea--lots of people with tons of experience and really gentle advice.
