Getting a male to lose interest?

I have a male Carpet that just won't quit :p
It's not a problem or anything, I gave him a break a couple of weeks ago and he ate a good size meal.

It just got me thinking about it.
If it looks like it's becoming a problem for the male, how do you get him to lose interest?
Problem as in he gets too skinny.

I give breaks to everyone and still offer food. All my Carpets are off feed at this time and my BPs are all as normal.
Hit and miss on a few, with a couple of females that have turned into savages.

Anyway... I just never really see any info on this. Thought it would be a good subject and would like to read everyones thoughts.

I'd say get him in a completely separate environment. Get him out of the same room as any other snakes... It has worked for a couple males for me. We didn't have any more females that were ready, but the male still wouldn't eat, and was only looking for females. I brought him into the house from the snake room and he finally gave up on the idea. Maybe he couldn't smell the females anymore. Maybe it was just the stress/change of changing places. Don't know, but he went back to eating.
Lots of BPs, and still not enough!

This is addictive...what did I get myself into?...

I assume the best thing is like what you do for females to make them forget about eggs. Scrub everything free of scent and remove him from the area where the ladies are at. Maybe even bump temps up to stop spermatogenesis.

Not sure why this was moved. It's more of a breeding question, I was just using my Carpet as an example.
Will most of the BP breeders even look here?

Thanks for the input Clark. I was thinking along those lines but it would seem they could still pick up a scent in the same house.
Like I said, no problems as of yet. I keep good weight records on them.

Probably true since they find each other in the wild in spaces much larger and more open air than a house.

I thought it would be a good subject to discuss but I'm sure it's just going to die off over in this section.

It would be nice to read some studies on how far a Ball Python travels to find a mate.

What about the breeders that can only keep the snakes in one room? Or even in one rack?

If all you can do is stop paring, how long does it take for the males dream to be crushed? :p

Can someone move this back to the breeding section?

Try pming one of the admins like Rabernet or dr del. Let them know you were just using your carpet as an example, but wanted the conversation etc steered more towards bps maybe?
