Got to see a wild snake today

I went fishing today and though I did not catch anything, I got to see a wild snake today and watch it for a while too. It was a black rat snake. It swam up from the lake onto the bank, and then it climbed up a tree. I watched it climb around on the different branch and back and forth between trees. Then it climbed down and went into the bushes. It was so cool! And as much as I wanted to catch it and take it home, I love seeing snakes in the wild and decided to leave it be

Nice snake, i wish we had more herps up here in CT. Ive seen one black rat snake in CT. I was at my stepdads work and everyone who was eating lunch outside by this little pond started freaking out. When i got over there i saw grown men standing on top of the benches screaming like girls . I immediately recognized it as a harmless rat snake and tried to handle it a bit. The snake must have been a female bc she was at least 6ft long. She was pretty flighty but didnt strike at me. After about 5 min or so i let her go and she went right into the reeds along the bank of the pond to probably hunt some critters! Amazing experience. Although i wasnt able to educate too many of the screaming girls bc most ran back inside after i started handling her. When i got back inside I was actually asked by one if i was a satanist or something like that. I told him i sure am, if satans into snakes, why not lol. Some people are soooooo stupid, i cant even imagine how they make it through a whole day by themselves!

Haha that's pretty funny Mike! I wish I would have at least picked it up and handled it a bit before it got away into the bushes

If you had caught it you wouldn't have to tell anyone u didn't catch anything. You could say you caught a 2 footer and left it at that lol

The first time I ever saw a snake in the wild was during my 6th grade "Outdoor Education" trip. We spent a few days in cabins and did a bunch of semi-outdoors stuff. On the way past the cabins someone passing us mentioned some "black hose" in front of a cabin. Everyone was looking at it, until it moved.

Turns out it was a 5 or 6ft black ratsnake. Imagine the majority of a 6th grade class running and screaming like Michael Myers was after them. I was so bummed because I only got to see its tail as it hid under a cabin. Everyone thought I was the weirdest kid ever.

    That's one awesome picture though!
