    Re: Question

Actually, I've always read and been told (at least by reputable sources ) that you shouldn't use a uth with beardies. As they are diurnal and they bask in the "sun," they really do best with heat from above and not belly heat. Also, I'm not positive on this, but I'm pretty sure that the hot side (floor, not basking spot) should be around 90F, so a uth at 95F would be too hot. So while it's great that you're using a thermostat with the uth, I would get rid of the uth altogether.

As yours is a baby, I would recommend trying to bump the basking temp up a bit - babies tend to do better around 105-110F, so I try to aim for 105. How are you measuring the temps?

If you want to post your entire setup, I can go over it for you and make suggestions if you want, though I'm not an expert I've just read a LOT about beardie husbandry, and have a bit of experience with them.

    Hope that helps!

    Re: Question

Only have the uth hooked up for nights i dont have another lamp yet that i can put a night time bulb in and my room gets kind of chilly at night. Im measuring temps with an infared thermometer. I have him in a 30g long tank(36"Lx12"wx18"T) for now looking for a bigger one but cant find any for the right price atm. Have an arched piece of drift wood for a basking spot with a clamp on lighting fixture with a 75w uva basking bulb. Also have a uvb tube light running length wise with nothing under it so not to block out the uvb rays the tank also has one of the tan tank liners from zoo med and a water bowl.

Your setup sounds great to me, except the uth. I don't know how small your baby is, but they can get stressed if the enclosure is too big. That size enclosure should be fine until he or she is at least 12 inches long. Also, they don't need a water bowl, so if you find that the humidity is an issue with it in the tank (you want to keep the humidity less than 40%), it's fine to not have one. High humidity shouldn't be an issue during the winter, but it may be something you need to watch later on. Even if they have a water bowl, they may or may not use it. As babies get dehydrated pretty easily, you may want to give him or her a bath every few days.

A night time temp drop is actually good for beardies, and they can handle as low as 65F at night (as long as they're healthy). So 95F at night would be way too warm, in my opinion. If your room gets below 65F, then I would recommend setting the uth to around 70-75F, but I think it would be best if you could get a ceramic heat emitter to use. They do best with no light at night (even a night bulb), so a ceramic heat emitter is what most recommend.

Hope that helps, and good luck with your new baby!
