I had the kids come inside the other day and say they found a snake skin. I told them to find the snake. They did within 5 minutes. They found a young banded water snake in the grass.
I caught the snake and asked where the skin was. My son pointed towards it. I then realized he had found the shed from my 6+ ft bredli that I tossed out with the substrate! It was very funny that the kids managed to and happened to find the water snake.
The snake was released into our pond.

Re: Field Herping in Georgia
Was at a party this afternoon and noticed a couple of uninvited guests hangin out around the deck. Tree frogs are cool. At first I only saw the one until I took the picture and looked closer. Anyways I thought I'd resurrect this thread since it is kind of a cute pic. Thanks for looking.

Re: Field Herping in Georgia
My sister who lives in Buford, GA found these two being a little indiscreet on her front lawn tonight. A couple of Eastern King snakes being amorous. For those of you who are wondering when is breeding season for Eastern King snakes in Georgia? I would have to say, based on the photo evidence, June 5th.

Re: Field Herping in Georgia
So the same sister that had the kingsnakes breeding on her lawn, works at a dentist office within a mile of me. She calls me this morning and says, "Hey, We have a little problem here. There is a copperhead right by our entry door. Can you come and move it?" So I said, "Of Course". I have to admit, I have never done anything with hots before. I had only ever seen a coral snake in the wild once. I was a little nervous knowing the potential bite a pit viper can inflict. I took a snake stick and a tub and caught this little guy or girl. It was about 20 to 24 inches long. Did get my adrenaline pumping just a bit. If it had been larger, I might have had second thoughts because my snake stick is only about 30" and the tub was a shoe box size. All in all it went fine. When it was tubbed up, it was rattling its tail defensively. Pretty cool. I rehomed it in a much less populated area about 45 minutes from my house.

I've picked up more than one hatchling box turtle to keep it from being run over by a mower at my ex-mil's (in southeast Missouri). Most of them I moved across the creek on her land, but one I gave to a friend who was into box turtles. It's amazing how fast they grow when they are taken care of properly.
