    41qt mini rack build complete

So I decided to pu my thayeri kingsnake in a bin because I have to many 20l but I didnt need a large 5 or 6 tier setup so I built a two tier rack(which I measured so wrong that I have enough room to add a 3rd tier haha, for hatchlings if I breed I guess) for my female and possible male thayeri if I decide to try a breeding project. I borrowed the design from blue apple herps in this thread. (please remove link if were not allowed to link other sites.)http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54489

Anyways here is the build process for my kingsnake mini rack.

All the materials. Only have one tub for now. I will buy another soon.
    Materials List:
    1 - 4'x8'x1/8" Sheet of melamine- $17 (home depot)
1 - 1"x4"x8' piece of pine board- $4 (home depot)
    2 - 1"x2"x8' pieces of furring strip- $.98ea-$2(home depot)
    1 - Box of 40 #8 x 1 1/2" - $2 (walmart, because I forgot at home depot)
    1 - Box of 24 #6 x 3/4" screws - $1 (walmart)
Total: $26 (and I had alot of excess, so I can make a 3rd shelf)

First I layed the boards on the 1x2 and got them as straight as possible and drilled three holes and use the 3/4" screws for this step.

Then screw on the 1x4s with the 1 1/2" screws. Make sure these are completely square or the rack will wobble. Use a square or t-square. (Trust me, I didnt and it wobbles a little.) I didnt take a picture but lay two shelves on end to help line up the 1x4.

Next step is to flip the rack upside down so the legs are sticking straight up. Than lay your bin in there upside down and place some sort of spacer. I used a 1/4" piece of acrylic but dont go much bigger than that so there are no escapees but do make sure to use a spacer so the bins slide easily.

Do the same thing with the next shelf as well.

Than flip over, put your bins in and voila. Quick and easy mini rack.

Hope you guys like and I want it to be clear that this was not my design. All I did was make it smaller and made the bin lay in there lengways instead of width ways because this was going on top of my beardie cage. Thanks for looking.

Re: 41qt mini rack build complete

So its really tight with the lids on but I have about a 1/4" gap is this to much for the kings or should I try and put spacers underneath them to close the gap? Also how many air holes should I put in the tubs? She has two hides in here tank should I put any in the tub with her?
