    ==========================================================

    1. Is my BP a morph?

    Not likely. Normal ball pythons come in a wide variety of colors and patterns. If you feel like you have something special, then you should trying proving out the trait through breeding.

    2. What does “het” mean?

    Het is a short form of the word heterozygous. This is a genetic term that describes having two different forms/alleles of a specific gene. For example, a normal female is NN and is crossed with an albino, aa. The offspring would all be Na, and appear normal since albino is a recessive trait.

    3. What is homozygous?

    This is a genetic term that describes having two of the same forms/alleles for a specific gene. A visible albino is homozygous for the albino gene.

    4. Can you explain the difference between recessive, dom, and co-dom?

    These terms are used to describe how the genes behave in a visible sense. If the gene is only visible in its homozygous state, then it is considered recessive. Dominant genes will express themselves equally in the heterozygous form and the homozygous form. A co-dominant trait will express itself one way in the heterozygous form, while in the homozygous form it will produce a ‘super’ or an exaggerated visual expression of the gene.

    5. What is a good beginner morph?

    The best morph is one that you can afford and enjoy. A lot of work goes into breeding, and genetics do not always follow the theoretical odds. If you decide to work with morphs, you must be prepared for the inevitable successes and failure that come with breeding.

    6. Where can I get morphs?

    Morphs can be obtained through breeders online and/or at reptile shows. Make sure to learn as much as you can about the morph you are interested in, as well as the breeder or dealer you would be buying from.

    7. Why are morphs so expensive?

    Morphs are expensive because they are rare and there is a high demand for them. They will continue to stay rare for a long time because it takes years to raise up healthy breeding stock and they have small clutch sizes compared to many other snakes and reptiles in the pet-trade today.

    8. What is the difference between a "base" morph and a "designer" morph?

    A "base" morph has, at some point, originally occurred in the wild. Either adult morphs were captured, or babies were hatched from captured animals. A "designer" morph occurs when a breeder combines two or more base morphs...a combination that is highly unlikely to have ever occurred in the wild.
