Is this big enough?
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to build my own rack system but i can't find many large plastic boxes! The largest one i've found is linked below, is this big enough for a adult royal?
http://www.plasticboxshop.co.uk/inde...T&productid=59
Also if anyone knows of a company that sells in the UK with the perfect tub please let me know!
Thanks!

Re: Is this big enough?
its a real pain in the ass how they don't have sterilite or rubbermaid tubs in the uk and ireland. it took me months to find something for my baby ball. its the same kind as that one except the smaller version. im not sure if thats big enough for an adult.

Re: Is this big enough?
Hi guys,
Actually you can get sterilite tubs in the U.K. - in theory.
I emailed sterilite about3 weeks ago and asked for local suppliers and got this in return;
"Thank you for contacting Sterilite. Our distributor for the UK and your area is:
Penbrook Enterprises Ltd.
Mahon Road Industrial Estate
Portadown, County of Armagh
Northern Ireland BT 62 4JP
Tel. 44-28-3833-3434
fax 44-28-3839-2444
e-mail: info@penbrook.co.uk
Please contact them for assistance in obtaining our products there.
Please let us know should you need further assistance."
I tried emailing and didn't get a reply so I phoned and spoke to them.I was only looking for 6-8 tubs however and he took my number and said he would call me back to let me know prices and possible delivery options - never heard a damn thing since.
I keep meaning to call them again but it might be an idea if we all mention what we want them for to let them know there may actually be a reasonable amount of sales of the product if they would only bother talking to us.
Maybe if we found out if they have a minimum amount that we could buy then split and mail through a carrier it might be possible for us to get them -after all they are big but surely don't weigh much so we could stack them and tape the lids on top etc and see how much it would be.
As to the tub you linked too I agree it seems a little small for a large adult royal - and incidently poundstretcher round the corner from me sell a clear version for £6.The shape of the bottom worries me though in both of them.
If anyone has better luck than I did we could post it in this thread and maybe we all get lucky - I want a rack dammit.

Back again,
I forgot to tell you about the alternative I found.
It's a little pricier at £11 but does come with sliders. But I haven't been to ikea yet to actually examine one ( I can't drive and they seem to pick spots away from bus routes) so if anyone has a chance I would appreciate a first hand report.
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...mber=S19807168
Its actually slightly larger than the serilite as far as I can see as well.

Re: Is this big enough?
Thanks very much for the link! i Went to Ikea today and they seem perfect, there abit expensive but still very cheap compared with buying/building tanks. I should get the reack set up within a couple of weeks, i'll post a couple of pics when i'm done.
On another note do you or indeed anyone else know where i can get flexiwatt in the UK or something similar?
Cheers

Re: Is this big enough?
Hi again,
I haven't been able to find anything like flexwatt yet but there are heat cables for sale ( maybe our american friends can tell us how they compare with flexwatt?).
The ones I have found on ebay are made by zoo med but the ones in my local herp store wasn't - I am going there later today so will try and get the details for you.
I'm a little worried about their ability to keep the temperatures up in my living room ( gets parky in the winter) but the guy in the shop suggested getting the longer ( higher wattage) version and using more loops per shelf.
Made sense as they all seemed around the same price (£25 - £35) for the short ones or the longest one.I was however thinking of having 2 cables per rack as I planned on having hatchling space on the bottom 2 shelves.
But this depends on how much space each shelf takes in the real world as I don't want the drawers opening higher than I can comfortably look down on ( and I'm a short-ass of only 5'8 ) Angry royals at nose height just seems a bad idea somehow.
Would definately be intrested in pictures of the rack - if only to find out how many shelves I can fit in each one. I have a horrible suspicion I'm going to end up building a whole second rack just to hold 2 cornsnake and a house snake - though I suppose it does make new arrivals easier to deal with.
What does the inside of those tubs look like? any dips or ridges? Also do you plan to leave the lids on?
I was thinking of building using melamine and not using the lids but having wood edges on 3 sides to the tub and a fold down one on the 4th to stop the royals pushing their way out - my big (2.33 kg) girl once destroyed a metal fish tank hood in under 20 minutes while I was cleaning her tank so I figured any give in the edge of the tub was a bad idea.

Re: Is this big enough?
Tbh i havn't actually seen the boxes myself, my gf went to have a look for me. And after giving her a list of requirements she came back saying they were 'ok' with no other details *sigh*, but shes a clever lady so they should be fine, besides its not like theres alot of choice!
I'm just banging out a design for the rack on pro/desktop atm, i'll post the pictures when i'm done (a day or so).
Having looked around i can't say i've found any heat cabling, for a decent price, that i'm convinced would keep the temps up, so i'm probably going to use UTH, one for the hot side and one for the cool. Although its going to cost £25 a shelf!! Plus £11 a tub and about £20 for the wood isn't going to make it as cheap as first hoped lol.
Let me know about that heat cable.

Re: Is this big enough?
Hi everyone,
I had the same trouble for ages! Search "tubs uk" and there'll be a thread I started a while back with the same problem and some suggestions. I got mine in Asda, its not as big as the ikea one but my bps still small. I did see a perfect one in PoundStretcher in Cardiff, so Im sure theyll have them in other poundstretchers over the UK. They were about £6 each I think. Good luck!
