Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.

Our western hognose and pastel bp hasn't eaten in 3 weeks. So, I'm a card-carrying member of the Non-Feeding-Snake club.

I know the snakes are fine as long as they are not losing too much weight. It's just stressful for us sometimes. So, this club's main purpose is to keep each other encouraged and comforted and knowing that you are not alone.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Consider me a card-carrying member of the club! My male normal, Alice, has not eaten since 12/29 and my female normal, Charger, has not eaten since 1/18. Most of the experts I've spoken with, including VPI reps at NARBC, say it's pretty normal for this time of year...they smell each other and are more interested in the prospect of breeding than eating Sounds pretty normal for most all living things I guess. They haven't lost weight and they are still sleeping during the day, active at night, and thermoregulating properly. I'm in Texas, so I hope an early spring will trigger their hunger soon.

On the brighter side....my new baby normal BCI, Vincent, just ate his first rat pinkie!

    Hang in there...

My boy Magda just started eating with consistency after a fast that lasted almost a year and a half (he has been on and off)... does that count?

And I have two girls that are going on four months...

As long as you know the health is on track and your husbandry is good, then no fears.

I think my other boy Jules is going into a small fast, which is surprisingly as he is a consistent winter faster and has been eating up till recently. If the misses this weekend he will be 3 weeks.

Do we get cards and a secret handshake? I LOVE the secret handshake!

    Bruce

PS: I think we should lobby for discounts and 2 for 1 specials at select restaurants and clothing outlets.

A YEAR AND A HALF!!! Bruce, you are the de facto club president.

Ooooh... I love the secret handshake. Shall we start looking for t-shirt designs?

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.

I think the t-shirt design should be very meaningful... a white T-shirt.

It stands for the lack of food... lack of elmination... lack of interest... etc.

I have to step down as president though since Magda is now a proud member of the eating snakes club.

But ask me in a few months and we will see if he is trying to turn me grey(er) again.

He just needed me to find him the exact secret recipe of feeders (which apparently is FT chicks marinated in rodent litter - not my idea of a good time, but it seems to do the trick for him).

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.

My adult male BP is a couple of weeks into his second annual fast. Last year he went 2 or 3 months. Last time he responded finally to a switch in prey from rats to pinky mice, but it may have just been time for him to eat again.

I will be buying a few different types of prey items next time I stock up on feeders, hoping it will bring him around again.

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.

I am SOO in! Most of my BPs haven't eaten now for at least 1.5 months... and a couple haven't eaten since November. For this year, that is. I get the feeling this is going to be typical for winter.

At least now I know not to breed my mice as much around Oct. and Nov. to not end up with tons of surplus.

Don't you hate that... I went through that my first year when my 5 strongest feeding males slowed down. I could not keep enough rats in the house, then suddenly I was swimming in them.
